What is the benefit of investing abroad?

2 minute read

Investing abroad is a way to diversify your investments and explore markets and countries with a different reality from Brazil.

What should I consider before investing abroad?

First, it is necessary to identify your investor profile and have an account with a brokerage firm.  The investment of money must be in line with your objectives and expected return periods.

Where can I invest?

Some possibilities are:

International funds: they offer exposure to a portfolio of assets traded outside Brazil, such as stocks, government bonds, and foreign exchange;

COE: or Certification of Structured Operations that combine fixed income with variable income;

BDRs: is the acronym for Brazilian Depositary Receipts and are certified bonds that represent shares issued by companies in other countries and traded in Brazil.

ETFs: Exchange Traded Funds, this type of investment replicates market indexes.

Foreign exchange and investment abroad

Monitoring the dollar exchange rate is fundamental to your investment process abroad; the increase in the dollar value tends to increase the profitability of your investment, while the fall will cause a decrease in its yield.

Brazilians invest abroad

From January to May 2020, Brazilian investors allocated US $ 3.452 billion to funds abroad.   In the same period of 2019, they were US $ 791 million, showing an exponential growth according to Central Bank data.
